1.      Career Exploration/Career Changer – If you are unsure of what career path you would like to pursue or are interested in making a career change, this is your opportunity to explore your options based on your skills, interests and values.

2.      Full Time Job Search Advising – If you have decided on the career path you would like to purse, this is your opportunity to develop a strategy specific your industry of choice. Please bring a draft of your resume with you.

3.      Resume/Cover Letter Review - Review the Writing Resumes and Writing Cover Letters handouts and create a draft BEFORE arriving to your appointment.

4.      Practice Interview - PCAPS has several interviewers from a variety of industries available to help you prepare for your interview. You will need to arrive with your resume and the job description for the position you are interviewing for. If an interviewer is not available you can schedule a practice interview with a career counselor.

When you arrive at the PCAPS office for your appointment, you will be asked to complete a short information form. During your session, you can think aloud with a counselor, seek advice, or ask for information. Your appointment is a time for you; use it as you like. Sometimes you may have to wait for an appointment, but we are committed to seeing you as soon as possible. If you cannot keep your appointment, please notify the PCAPS Career Resource Coordinator as soon as possible.

Career Exploration

Career Exploration is an exciting process that helps you decide what you want to do after college, and equips you to manage your life-long career development. Like your academic experience in the liberal arts, career exploration is a learning process of asking questions and investigating options. It is designed to help you make informed choices.

It is never too late to begin career exploration and it is often good to revisit the process as you refine your interests, or as experiences open up new areas to explore. Persona International’s PCAPS is dedicated to supporting you through these steps. Come in and see us!

Each job or internship search is unique. But they all require at least a few things in common.

You will need the tools below as you launch and proceed with your successful search. Remember, you don't have to do this on your own! The PCAPS is here to help. Come for appointments, or just email or call us anytime for support!

Resume handout

This gives the reader a quick and clear description of your background as its relevant to a particular position. You may need more than one version if you're focusing on several different fields!

Cover Letter and other Correspondence handout

It gives a quick sample of your ability to write concisely and on point. It's your chance to expand on the most significant items in your resume for this particular position, and to show your enthusiasm and interest. This document must be tailored for each different employer!

Interviewing handout

This is an opportunity for the employer to delve deeper into your skills and interests, but also to get a sense for what it might be like to have you on staff. Practice interviews are the best way to develop this skill.

This is a short self-description you'll tailor to each situation you encounter while networking and interviewing.

Self Assessment is the first step in career exploration and is a process of learning about yourself. PCAPS' Practice Interviewers come from a variety of backgrounds, educations and work experiences and provide valuable feedback on your interviewing style. Schedule a practice interview prior to any internship or full-time interviews to prepare for some of the difficult questions that potential employers may ask you.
